Province supports Sittard-Avantis cycle route

The Province of Limburg is granting a government subsidy of €1.2 million to the municipality of Heerlen for the construction of the Sittard-Avantis cycle route. With this money, we will renovate and install two existing bicycle bridges and construct a 400-meter bicycle connection between Earl Bakkenstraat and Avantis Allee. This will create a direct bicycle connection between the Trilandis and Avantis business parks.

Reuse of two bicycle bridges

We will construct the bicycle connection by placing two existing bicycle bridges over the N281-N300 traffic circle. The bridges will be renovated and widened and will connect to two separate bicycle paths on the existing bicycle route. We will use the two bicycle bridges that became available when the A2 was widened.

Sustainable mobility

Currently, the Avantis and Trilandis business parks are mainly accessible by car. With this new cycle route, we are also making the area accessible and attractive for cyclists. "A great step forward for sustainable mobility in the province," says Jasper Kuntzelaers (Mobility). "What's more, this connection will improve the health, quality of life, and safety of our Limburg residents. By investing in safe and comfortable cycling infrastructure, we are encouraging more people to cycle to work, school, or in their free time."

Alderman Marco Peters Mobility, Municipality of Heerlen) emphasizes the importance of the cycle route for the regional economy: "This cycle route not only improves daily mobility, but also strengthens the economic power of the cluster around Avantis and Trilandis. Good accessibility is a prerequisite for a future-proof economy. By better connecting employees, education, and businesses, we increase the attractiveness of the area and create space for further growth and innovation for the entire region."
