Restoration of exterior facades of City Hall
The exterior facades of Council House are in need of renovation. The last major work took place in the late 1970s. Therefore, it is again necessary to renovate the facades. Starting Sept. 30, we will cordon off the facades and begin expert restoration. The work will take about two years. The entrances to City Hall will remain accessible as usual.
Why
A specialized company conducted a study of cleaning methods for the exterior facades of the Council House. They noticed that the natural stone exterior cladding of the building is no longer in a good condition. It has been over forty years since the facades were last renovated. The joints are no longer good, stones are loose and anchors are rusting. This can create a fall hazard from pieces of natural stone. For the safety of workers, visitors and local residents, we are going to cordon off and restore the exterior facades of Council House.
Planning
We will be cordoning off the front and rear facades of Council House starting September 30. At the side facades, a cordon off is not necessary. In these places there is a fence or is parkland. The municipality will also begin discussions with contractors to start restoration work. The start date of this restoration is not yet known. We do not expect this to happen until mid-2025. Our priority for the restoration is the front and rear facade of the Town Hall. This is because here are the entrances to the building. In addition to the restoration work, we also immediately clean the exterior facades.
