Rigorous greening in Lindeveld

The Lindeveld neighborhood is currently hard at work on a major greening. The contractor is installing façade gardens at 94 addresses with Koempel soil specially developed for Heerlen.

The construction of the facade gardens in Lindeveld fits perfectly with the ambition of the college to rigorously green the city. Three areas have been designated as pilot areas for this purpose: Lindeveld, Eikenderveld and Mariarade-Noord.

Welfare and livability

Alderman Marco Peters of Management and Maintenance: "The quality of public space is very important to us. It determines to a large extent the wellbeing, welfare and livability in our neighborhoods. It also creates more solidarity. That is why we choose to invest heavily in the immediate surroundings of our residents. By rigorously greening we not only improve the perception of and connection with a neighborhood, but we also work on more biodiversity."

One design

In the Lindeveld neighborhood, the neighborhood foundation had been working on plans to green up for some time. Residents had already placed flower boxes here and there. The cooperation with the municipality has ensured that there is now one design for all the facade gardens, based on the wishes and preferences of the residents. The municipality takes care of laying out the gardens and plants.

Cowpatch ground

The gardens are demarcated with a special, steel edging. Old soil is removed and filled with the Koempel soil prepared in Heerlen. This has been developed by the employees of the municipality. Through their years of experience, they know exactly which subsoil, in which place in the city, is best suited for the plants that will come there. This only benefits the beauty, quality and durability of the flowerbeds.

Construction of the gardens is expected to be completed by the end of June. During a joint planting day, the greenery will then be planted by residents and municipality.
