Rigorous greening of Mariarade North

At Mariarade Community House, we presented the final designs for the rigorous greening in Mariarade North.

In preparation for the plan, we looked at places with paving that have no function. In Mariarade-North we will remove 2000 m2 of pavement and plant new greenery. We are also adding 70 trees and giving more than 7500 m2 of green space a major facelift.

Safe and child-friendly

Joop Basten of SBWM (Stichting Buurtgericht Werken Mariarade):
"A safe and child-friendly neighborhood is very important. Excess rainwater must disappear quickly into the ground. Children should be able to learn from all that new greenery. Much more color is also important. Not only for residents, but also for insects. And we are constructing smart and safe parking lots".

Collaborate

In Mariarade-North, this is all done in cooperation with the neighborhood association and concerned residents. And we are also seeking cooperation with housing corporations Woonpunt and Vinco Wonen. With Woonpunt, we are already well on our way to developing greening plans on their property.

Ownership

Alderman Marco Peters: "After Lindeveld and Eikenderveld, it is now Mariarade-Noord's turn. The complete metamorphosis of the neighborhood is generating a lot of enthusiasm among residents, which is enormously contagious. An approach like this creates more ownership in the neighborhood. People feel more involved and responsible for their own living environment. This leads to the most beautiful bottom-up initiatives. We have to cherish that. Only then will we achieve the maximum result together. Anything to make our neighborhoods and districts stronger and more livable!"

Follow-up

In several places, we can already get started. For the more radical pieces, we are now reviewing information gathered, tips, suggestions and ideas. We will process these and adjust the designs accordingly.
