Roel Wever mayor of the municipality of Heerlen since 2020.

"My name is Roel Wever I have been mayor of beautiful Heerlen since September 2020. My wife Miranda and I have five children and now three grandchildren, whom I am very proud of. I was born and raised in Amsterdam, growing up near the old Ajax stadium. I also studied public administration at the University of Amsterdam. In 1995, we moved to Heerlen because I got a job in Kerkrade. Now, almost thirty years later, I have grown to love Heerlen and its people! Being mayor of this city is therefore my dream job. The people of Heerlen are bold, open, and say what they mean, which I love. There is a lot to do in our city. There is currently a positive feeling about Heerlen. So I see many opportunities. That gives me even more drive to continue building Heerlen.

My dream is that in a few years' time, Heerlen will be featured in Lonely Planet as a must-see destination! With a modern, energetic, pleasant, and green city center that has something for everyone. And not just for the residents of Heerlen, but also for the people of Limburg, and national and international visitors. Heerlen is a must-see! That is what I am striving for, together with the city council. Building Heerlen, a bright future lies ahead of us. Out of love for the city!
