Roel Wever has been mayor of the municipality of Heerlen since 2020.

"I am Roel Wever and since September 2020 Mayor of beautiful Heerlen. Together with my wife Miranda, I have five children and now three grandchildren, of whom I am very proud. I was born and raised in Amsterdam. I grew up near the old Ajax stadium. In Amsterdam I also did my education at the UVA, legal administrative science. In 1995 we moved to Heerlen, because I then got a job in Kerkrade. Now, almost thirty years later, I have come to love Heerlen and the Heerlen people! Therefore, being mayor of this city is rightfully my dream job. The Heerlen citizen has guts, is open and says what's on his mind, I love that. There is a lot going on in our city. There is a positive feeling about Heerlen at the moment. So I see a lot of opportunities. That gives me even more drive to continue building Heerlen.

My dream is that in a few years Heerlen will be in the Lonely Planet, that you must have seen Heerlen! With a modern, energetic, cozy and green center where there is something for everyone. And not only the Heerleners, but also the Limburgers, and national as well as international guests. Heerlen must be seen! That is what I am going for, together with the college. Building Heerlen, a wonderful future lies ahead of us. Out of love for the city!"
