School environment of Bekkerveld Child Center completed

School zone

In Burgemeester Savelbergstraat the pavements, parking spaces and the roadway have been renewed. We have used baked paving stones that together with the text 'Schoolzone' indicate that one is approaching the Child Centre. When driving into Bekkerveld from Bekkerweg a speed bump has been made and a pedestrian crossing has also been made on Bekkerweg. Coloured poles have been placed at the school to make road users aware of the school. 

At the main entrance of the school there are now posts. The Bekkerveld is a dead end road on two sides. This prevents people from driving too fast and ensures a safe crossing. A green plan has been implemented in the entire area that fits the appearance of the Bekkerveld, the houses and the school.

Connecting factor

Residents' representation LUS+: "Our experience is that drawing up a traffic plan is a challenging process due to the various stakeholders. Safety for all children, for everyone, that was the connecting factor for creative solutions such as the "bus lock". And to achieve a traffic situation where we also take into account the quality of life of the residents. Participation of stakeholders is challenging. It can lead to a long but rewarding process that requires transparency. It ensures dialogue, cooperation, support and a wonderful result."

A safe school environment

Alderman Marco Peters : “Children must be able to go to school safely, everywhere in our city. That is why we are investing more than ever in creating safe school environments and routes. So also for the Child Center at Bekkerveld. Together with the neighborhood and the school, we have worked hard to come up with a supported plan that takes into account the safety of the children, but also the liveability of the neighborhood. I am proud of everyone who contributed to this.”
