Social Safety extended to Heerlen-Zuid

The Social Safety approach was officially extended to Heerlen-Zuid yesterday. This approach tackles livability issues at the neighborhood level and behind closed doors in an integrated manner. We take decisive action against nuisance and crime, but also offer appropriate assistance where necessary.

To improve the quality of life and safety in Heerlen-Noord, the municipality, police, housing associations, Buurtteams , JENS, and the Health and Safety House are working closely together in neighborhoods using the Social Safety approach. And with success. Since the approach was launched in 2021, interventions have been carried out at more than 850 addresses. Since 2024, the approach has been active throughout Heerlen-Noord. But there are also challenges in terms of quality of life and safety in Heerlen-Zuid. Here too, the Social Safety approach provides the foundation and working method for collaboration and making neighborhoods safer.

Mayor Wever gave the official go-ahead yesterday at a meeting with community workers from various organizations.

Mayor Wever: “It is important to tackle the problems in our neighborhoods together. You can't do it alone. The Social Safety approach provides the framework for this cooperation between the parties involved in the neighborhoods. The key to this is the commitment of our people. Here, too, this drive is palpable, and I see professionals with a big heart for the people they want to help and who are willing to go that extra mile."
