Searching for medieval traces in Heerlen
Guided tourDate:
Location: Heerlen-Centrum

In 2025, Heerlen is dedicated to its rich history. Therefore, the Municipality of Heerlen is offering a free tour to up to 500 people.
At the heart of present-day Heerlen lies a medieval fortress, Landsfort Herle. At first glance, not much seems left of it, but during this walk, the Middle Ages come back to life.
The Landsfort - a name given to the fortress only in the 1960s - was a walled church fortress. Around it was a moat as much as twelve meters wide and over six meters deep. You entered the fortress through one of the three gates, in front of which was a bridge to cross the moat. Archaeological finds and remnants of medieval structures revive the turbulent times of knights and robbers in Heerlen. Will you join the tour?
Start location: Visit Zuid-Limburg Experience Heerlen-Parkstad (VVV).
