State secretary Gräper visits Heerlen

Last Monday, State Secretary for Culture and Media, Fleur Gräper, was in Heerlen for a working visit. During her visit, she showed interest in, among other things, the broad significance that culture can have for a city and its inhabitants. The role of culture in regions outside the Randstad was also discussed.

The working visit began at The Roman Museum. Heerlen wants to build a new museum there around the Roman bathhouse, an archaeological national monument. From there, the company visited the Franciscus of Assisi Church on the outskirts of Heerlen-Centrum, in which the city wants to establish a target group pool. The afternoon concluded at the also national monument cinema Royal with a discussion on the significance of a full-fledged center for image and media for the chain of film production and talent development.

The State Secretary expressed great appreciation for the way Heerlen protects and utilizes heritage to foster a sense of community and local pride. She also emphasized that culture is at the heart of society and is an investment with significant impact. It not only promotes care, welfare and economy, but also the growth and development of both city and region.
