Municipal monument and small built heritage grants

Do you want to preserve a municipal monument, restore a monument façade to its original state? Or do you want to do restoration or conservation work on small built heritage? If so, you may receive a grant.

Approach

Complete and submit the application form:

Application for preservation of special parts of municipal monuments

  • An inspection report, not older than 2 years, showing the building condition and defects of particular components
  • An explanation of the causes of the defects
  • architectural drawings and/or photographs of existing condition
  • a cost summary per building in hours and materials
  • and timing of the work

Application for removal of disturbances on front facade

  • photos of existing condition
  • a study of the original situation or the situation before the disturbances
  • an improvement plan

Application for restoration and conservation of small built heritage.

  • photos of existing condition
  • An explanation of the causes of the defects
  • a cost summary per building in hours and materials
  • a list of agencies where a contribution to expenses has also been requested or received with the copies of award
  • and timing of the work

Application for preparation of inspection report of building condition of a municipal monument

  • A quote from an independent expert building inspector or agency

Application for preparation of a building survey with report of a municipal monument 

  • A quotation from an independent expert building archaeologist or agency

Description

The Municipality of Heerlen considers it important to protect the cultural-historical value and improve the historical visual quality. Therefore, we provide subsidies for this purpose:

  • the owner of a municipal monument or
  • An applicant seeking to maintain small built heritage assets.

Terms

Conditions for grants for preservation of special parts of municipal monuments include: 

  • The owner applies for the grant.
  • Each municipal monument can apply for the grants once every two years.
  • The owner shall send a financial statement within 8 weeks of completion of the work.
  • Along with the financial statement, send copies of bills and proofs of payment for the work. We will then determine the grant.

Conditions for grant funding for the removal of disturbances to the facade of a municipal monument include:

  • This is only a municipal monument with architectural disturbance to the front façade.
  • For each municipal monument, you may submit only one grant for the removal of disturbances to the facade.
  • The owner applies for the grant.
  • Removing frontage disturbances gives the surrounding area and also the community a tourist or economic boost.
  • The owner shall send a financial statement within 8 weeks of completion of the work.
  • Along with the financial statement, send copies of bills and proofs of payment for the work. We will then determine the grant.

Term

The municipality makes a decision within 12 weeks.
