As a tenant or owner of a residential or commercial property, you can receive subsidies for green roofs and green facades. With this we make our city greener and more resistant to heavy showers, hot and dry summers.

Description

Gemeente Heerlen provides subsidies to owners or tenants of a home or property. By doing so, we want to:

  • Reduce CO2 emissions
  • save energy
  • bind particulate matter and nitrogen
  • reduce noise and flooding
  • increase biodiversity
  • combat urban warming

This regulation applies only to homes and properties within the municipality of Heerlen.

Requirements

The Requirements are:

  • You are the owner or user of the property
  • the minimum roof area is 10 m2 for a home and 50 m2 for a commercial building
  • the minimum area for green facades is 5 m2 for a home and 10 m2 for a commercial building
  • the structure of the green roof must meet the minimum water storage of 25 l/m2 for an extensive green roof and 50 l/m2 for an intensive green roof
  • green roofs and facade gardens require an environmental permit
  • Once constructed, you must maintain facilities for a minimum of 5 years

Subsidy for disconnecting stormwater

Approach

You may not construct green roofs or green facades until your grant application is approved. Work must start within 6 months of grant approval and be completed within 1 year.
