Subsidy for green roofs and facades

As a tenant or owner of a residential or commercial property, you can receive a grant for green roofs and green facades. Apply online. This is how we make our city greener and more resilient to heavy downpours and hot, dry summers.

Approach

You may only install green roofs or green facades once your subsidy application has been approved. The work must start within 6 months of the subsidy being granted and be completed within 1 year.

Description

The City of Heerlen provides grants to owners or tenants of a home or building. Our goal is to:

  • Reducing CO2 emissions
  • save energy
  • binding particulate matter and nitrogen
  • reduce noise pollution and flooding
  • increase biodiversity
  • counteract urban warming

This scheme only applies to homes and properties within the municipality of Heerlen.

Requirements

The Requirements :

  • you are the owner or user of the property
  • The roof area must be at least 10 m2 for a residential property and 50 m2 for a commercial building
  • Green facades must have a minimum surface area of 5 m² for a residential building and 10 m² for a commercial building
  • The green roof system must have a minimum water storage capacity of 25 l/m² for an extensive green roof and 50 l/m² for an intensive green roof
  • You need an environmental permit for green roofs
  • You must maintain the installed facilities for at least 5 years
