Taxi stand in the nightlife district is moving to Geleenstraat

The taxi stand for nights out is moving from the Bongerd to Geleenstraat. This change takes effect on Thursday, August 6. The new location is reserved exclusively for taxis on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.

Why is the taxi stand moving?

The current taxi stand on the Bongerd is causing problems. On nights when people go out, some of the paid parking spaces are reserved exclusively for taxis. During events, these spaces are not available—which is precisely when people need taxis the most.

New location works better

The municipality has already used Geleenstraat a few times as a temporary taxi stand. This location worked much better for everyone. That is why the taxi stand will now have a permanent location on Geleenstraat.

Where will the new location be?

The new location will be in front of City Hall and the municipal office. It will extend from the tree on the corner of City Hall to the bicycle parking garage at the municipal office.

What are the rules?

  • Only taxis are allowed to park here
  • Only on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
  • Outside of these hours, the regular parking rules apply
  • There will be no special parking spaces

Benefit for the nightlife district

With the new location, the municipality is ensuring a more organized taxi service. Visitors to the city center can now catch a taxi more easily.
