Exhibition and book presentation: ‘Theo Lenartz – artist in turbulent Heerlen’
ExhibitionDate: to
Location: TheNew Gallery

Theo Lenartz is a familiar figure to many in Heerlen. He is now 88 years old and still working as an artist. He recently designed a gate for Betaplein in the city.
But what has he done? How has his artistry developed? An exhibition and a book aim to shed light on this.
The exhibition and the book are an initiative of Rob Kooiman, who works in the field of museum projects. Both focus on Theo Lenartz's artistry in light of developments in Heerlen and the region. He does so out of an appreciation for Theo Lenartz's work, a connection to Heerlen, and an artistic and museum vision.
With this special presentation, in which change and continuity become visible and emotions palpable, he wants to pay tribute to the artistry of Theo Lenartz and to the city in which it was able to flourish.
Opening on December 9 at 4 p.m.
The exhibition will be opened in the presence of Theo Lenartz by Jordy Clemens, Alderman , Culture, Heritage, and City Center Development, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. You are most welcome to attend.
The exhibition was made possible by the Municipality of Heerlen, the Rosas Donamus Foundation, Frisse Wind, the Frans Gijzels Foundation, the Municipality of Kerkrade, Vijgen Horeca Group, Berden Mode & Wonen Heerlen, the Dutch Mining Museum, and various private lenders.
