Exhibition Council House

Exhibition

Date:   to

Location: City Hall (Geleenstraat 25)

SCHUNCK presents the most current acquisitions for the municipal art collection in the hall of the Council House. With works by David Bade, Hadassah Emmerich and Dean Kisters, among others.

Heerlen's Town Hall, designed by architect Frits Peutz, was built between 1936 and 1942. Since its opening, works of art from the municipal art collection have been on display in the hall, supplemented by temporary exhibitions of young talent from the region, among others.

In 1986, the Municipal Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the City Gallery, was established. From then on, the temporary exhibitions took place in the museum building designed by Jo Coenen, a stone's throw from the City Hall. In 2003, the City Gallery moved to the Glass Palace on the Bongerd and since January 1, 2009, the museum is organizationally part of the SCHUNCK Foundation, also located in the Glass Palace.

Since its inception, the museum's core mission has been to manage, expand and make visible the modern and contemporary art collection of the municipality of Heerlen. Displaying selections from that collection in the publicly accessible hall of the Town Hall remains an essential part of this.

The exhibit will be on display during business hours beginning April 7.
