Do you want a terrace at your café or restaurant? Then you usually need a permit. Even if you want to put the terrace on your own land. You can request this permit from your municipality.

Rates for 2025

  • A permit on municipal land costs €146.85 
  • A permit on private land costs € 105.00 

Rates for 2026

  • A permit on municipal land costs €150.65. 
  • A permit on your own property costs €107.75.

Description

A terrace may require a catering license and/or an Alcohol Act license. Do you already have these permits? If so, you must apply to change them. We will check your application against the rules for terraces. A permit is usually also required if the terrace is on private land. 

Requirements

Your patio must meet the following Requirements, among others:

  • you do not cause noise pollution with your terrace
  • terrace furniture is movable
  • plenty of space remains for pedestrians
  • you abide by the municipal opening hours for terraces

Term

The municipality will make a decision within eight weeks of receiving your application. The municipality may extend this period once.

Objections and appeals

You can object to the decision on your application. Do this within 6 weeks. If you disagree with the decision on the objection, you can lodge an appeal with the court.
