Theo de Groot OPH) has been a council member since March 29, 2018, and has served as Alderman the municipality of Heerlen since 2026.

My name is Theo de groot. I was born and raised in the Eikenderveld neighborhood of Heerlen. I’m the proud father of Noah and Nina and have been happily married to Fabienne for many years.

I completed a bachelor’s degree in Labor Market Policy and Human Resources Management and subsequently earned an MBA in Business Administration. At ABP, Loyalis, and the Veterans Institute, I have held positions as an HR advisor, manager, communications/marketing advisor, and care coordinator.

In my role as a party representative and chairperson for the OPH, I have come to know Heerlen better and better. It is a city with enormous potential, characterized by determination, a down-to-earth attitude, and a strong sense of justice.

As a council member, I have already experienced how wonderful it is to represent our residents alongside 36 other residents of Heerlen. Together, we are working toward making our city even stronger than it already is. As a future city official, I want to give that effort an extra boost. I see collaboration and open communication as key Requirements doing my job well over the next four years. Only by working together with the city administration, the city council, city employees, and especially our residents can we make progress. Here’s to an even better Heerlen!
