Trudy Janssen
Trudy Janssen (OPH) has been Alderman the municipality of Heerlen since June 3, 2026
My name is Trudy Janssen, and I’m 60 years old. I was born in Brabant, but I’ve lived in Limburg for 35 years, the last 23 of which have been in Heerlen. I’m married and have three children. My career began with the police. I progressed from being a street officer to various leadership roles. For example, I worked on Operation Hartslag and got to know Heerlen from a public safety perspective. Collaborating with our healthcare partners through an integrated approach was a major step forward. That’s a way of working that still makes a difference today. After the police force, I moved into local government—a surprising work environment, complex and fascinating. In my work, I always seek to connect with people to make a difference. Getting the job done together gives me energy and satisfaction.
I am approachable and open to ideas and feedback. I believe participation is important. Together with those directly involved, we will find the solution. I am also committed to helping older adults remain active members of our society. With their life experience, they have a lot to offer the city. These are opportunities for Heerlen. The Heerlen Senior Citizens Agreement provides us with the foundation for this.
A pleasant living environment—clean and safe—ensures that residents feel comfortable. That is why maintenance standards must be maintained and reports addressed promptly. The BuitenBeter app makes reporting easy and speeds up the follow-up process. Communication with residents is important; it ensures that expectations are clear. The same applies to projects with a significant impact. Through effective planning and clear communication, residents understand why.
I feel a strong connection to Heerlen. It’s a wonderful place to live and work, with plenty of opportunities for us to tackle challenges together. Will you join me?
