Invitations citizens' meeting sent out
Between Nov. 11 and 13, 10,000 Heerlen residents will receive an invitation to the citizens' council. With this invitation, residents can register for the citizens' council. We will draw 136 Heerlen residents from among those who register. They will form the citizens' council that in January 2025 will answer the question: "How do we ensure that the municipality of Heerlen is a nice place to live for everyone?".
Mayor Roel Wever : 'After our residents have been allowed to choose a theme for the citizens' council, I hope that many Heerlen residents will register to participate. How wonderful it is that a group of residents will advise us on the theme of liveability. And that we can then work on it together. My appeal is therefore: seize this unique opportunity if you receive an invitation!'
Theme livability
Earlier this year, Heerlen residents could suggest a theme for citizens' council and later vote on it. The theme of livability received the most votes and was presented to the city council in September. They voted in favor of the theme and established the issue, "How do we ensure that the municipality of Heerlen is a nice place to live for everyone? The participants of the citizens' council can use this question to give advice on, for example, the maintenance of streets and neighborhoods, the reduction of litter and the prevention of degeneration.
Basic Registration of Personal Data ( BRP )
From the Basic Registration of Personal Data, we will select 10,000 residents aged 16 and older. These residents will receive an invitation on November 11 and 12. After registration, we draw 136 people in by a number of characteristics. These include gender, age, residential area and education level. This ensures that the citizens' council is a good reflection of Heerlen society.
Planning
Invited residents have until Dec. 16, 2024, to apply. The 136 residents drawn will be notified on Dec. 18. They make up the citizens' council that will start on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025. After this kick-off meeting, there will be four more meetings. Participants, if they attend the meetings, will receive financial compensation. The final meeting will be on Saturday, March 29. On that day, the citizens' council will present their opinions.
