Unique character Benzenrade strengthened
Alderman Marco Peters gave the starting signal last week for the major maintenance in Benzenrade. Collaboration with the residents resulted in a plan that fits the unique village character. The district will be ready in the summer of next year.
What exactly is going to happen?
We will renew the sewers and replace the paving with baked pavers. This choice strengthens the village character of Benzenrade and is also in line with ambitions for sustainability. Historical elements, such as the wooden electricity poles, will remain and we will replace the street lighting with LED lighting in a classic style that suits the atmosphere of the village.
We are also renewing some of the greenery in the neighborhood and draining rainwater in a different way to better deal with rainwater. In this way, we are not only improving the infrastructure, but the entire neighborhood is getting a facelift that meets the residents' needs as closely as possible.
Collaboration with the neighborhood
In 2021, the neighborhood association submitted a redevelopment plan. In it, residents made their wishes clear. The plan was then further examined and developed by the municipality. They conducted a survey about the traffic situation and parking problems, and the results were discussed with the neighborhood. Many of the residents' suggestions were adopted. At the end of October, about 75 residents met with the contractor to discuss the execution of the work.
Marco Peters : “This project shows how important cooperation with our residents is. With the major maintenance, we are not only replacing and improving the paving and the sewer, but we are also strengthening the unique character of Benzenrade. The neighborhood has played a very active role in this. I am very proud of that. This is the only way we can achieve the best result together.”
