From MY shaft to MY Museum (Saturday 16 August)

On the last day of 1974, the very last coal was extracted from the Oranje Nassau I in Heerlen. This marked the end of centuries of mining in South Limburg.
During this walk the guide takes you back to the time of black gold. You start where the MINE era ended and end in the Dutch Mining Museum where you discover the different facets of the colorful mining past.
Program
- 10:00 am: You start this package at the Oranje-Nassau I Mine Monument. Here a volunteer will introduce you to the technology and the underground aspect of the mines.
- 11.30 am: from the Oranje-Nassau I Mine Monument, a guide will take you on a MINE walk with a short visit to the temporary exhibition in the Visit Zuid-Limburg Experience in the Maankwartier. Then you walk with the guide towards the center to the other location of the Dutch Mining Museum on the Dr. Poelsstraat.
- 12.30-13.30: opportunity to have lunch somewhere on your own or to visit the other location of the Dutch Mining Museum in the Kneepkenspand on Dr. Poelsstraat.
- 13:30: visit to the Dutch Mining Museum in the Dr. Poelsstraat. Here you will see another part of the underground story and then you will see more about the above-ground life of the Mining Region. The museum closes at 17:00.
