From park to park
With the planting of a Bee Tree, Alderman Marco Peters (Management and Maintenance), together with initiators, children from Eikenderveld Elementary School and others involved, opened the Charles Hennen Park in Eikenderveld. It is now a beautiful place where everything grows and blossoms throughout the year and where local residents can meet.
About three years ago, a number of residents expressed a desire to transform the Charles Hennen Park, until then a lawn, into Charles Hennen Park.
Designs
Children from the elementary school then created designs of what the park should ideally look like. There are now seven multi-stemmed shrubs and a beautiful Bee Tree. Further plantings bloom alternately from each other so that the park is bright and colorful throughout the year. In consultation with residents, there are now three benches in a shady spot.
Side by side
Huub Ortmans, initiator of Charles Hennen Park together with Erik de Ruiter: "For me, the opening of the park with all its greenery symbolizes the positive changes that Eikenderveld is currently undergoing. It's great to see that residents are talking to each other about the layout of their neighborhood, expressing their opinions about it and that these are then picked up and implemented by the municipality. Side by side with us".
Joint approach
Alderman Marco Peters: "A place that was mainly used as a dog walking area has now been transformed into a colorful park, a beautiful new entrance to the neighborhood. Together with all those involved, we were able to realize this residents' initiative and create a place where people can meet. Moreover, it is a true tribute to the namesake of this park: Charles Hennen, a renowned violinist and founder of the Heerlen School of Music."
