Moving within the Netherlands

Are you moving? You notify the municipality in which you are moving. This can be done 4 weeks before the move until 5 days after the move.

Approach

You can report a move from 4 weeks before the move until 5 days after the move.

  • Log in with DigiD at the municipality in which you will live.
  • Fill in the details.

Can't submit online?

You can also register the move in writing or by appointment at the municipality. Then send or bring a valid ID and the BSN number of the main resident.

Are you moving in with someone? If so, we also ask:

  • A written consent from the primary occupant
  • A copy of a valid ID of the primary resident
  • a lease or purchase contract

Cost

Communicating a move is free of charge.

Description

You must always report a move to the municipality in which you are moving. Even if you continue to live in the same municipality. The municipality will then update the basic registration of persons (BRP).

If you are moving to Heerlen from abroad, you must visit us in person to provide your new address.

On MijnOverheid, you can see the effective date of your move.

Terms

The requirements for reporting a move include:

  • You are 16 years of age or older.
  • You have permission from the resident when you move in with someone.
  • The move will be communicated by:
    • yourself
    • a parent, guardian or caregiver
    • cohabiting spouses or registered partners for each other (if they move to the new address together)
    • cohabiting parents and adult children (18+) for each other (if they move to the new address together)
    • a legal representative
    • an adult with written consent

Term

After the move date, we will send you a written confirmation of your move at home.

The date on which the municipality registers your move in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP), is the date on which you report the move to us. This is also the case if you have moved somewhere else before and you forgot to pass this on.
