Leaving the Netherlands (emigrating).
Are you living in the Netherlands and moving to another country? You report this to the municipality if you move to another country for more than 8 months in a period of 1 year.
Report your move abroad to the municipality up to 5 days in advance. You can do this digitally if everyone at your address is moving with you. If there are residents remaining at the address, you cannot pass on the move online.
Approach
This is how you report your departure to another country:
- You make the notification within 5 days before your departure.
- Do any family members remain at your current address in the Netherlands?
- You visit the municipality.
- You do this together with all family members who are moving abroad with you. This includes children, if there are any.
- Each person brings a valid ID.
- Do no family members remain at your current address in the Netherlands?
- You make your report in writing.
- You attach a copy of your valid ID.
- You pass on:
- in which country you will be staying
- what your first address is (with city name)
- the date you are moving
If you fail to report your departure abroad, the municipality may impose a fine on you.
