Renewal shopping center Giesen Bautsch

The municipality is working on a future-proof neighborhood heart for Heerlerbaan. Project Heerlen-Bautsch B.V. is building and renovating the shopping center. Above the stores there will be 41 apartments for sale in the middle segment. Together with the Brede Maatschappelijke Voorziening (BMV) and community center Caumerbron, this will create a place where shopping, living and meeting come together. Heerlerbaan will have an economic and social center in the district. 

Quality is paramount in the development. The municipality wants to make this area a beautiful and pleasant place to stay. With enough parking spaces and lots of greenery. A pleasant place for residents, visitors and entrepreneurs. We also include parts of the Corisbergweg and Vullingsweg in the plans. We take into account livability, more greenery, climate and traffic. Extra money is needed for these plans. The City Council will decide on September 24.

"With the renewal of the shopping center and apartments that will be above it, we need to seize the opportunity and invest in a quality public space. We also realize a good connection to the newly built BMV and the adjacent community center. This will create a modern district center in Heerlerbaan with a shopping area that can last for decades again," said Alderman Martin de Beer (economics).

Planning

If the permit is approved, the plan is likely to be completed in the spring of 2029. Until then, work on the new building, remodeling and public space design will continue step by step...: 

  • Spring 2026: Start demolition and site preparation for new construction
  • Summer 2026: Start of new construction
  • Summer 2028: Completion of new building
  • Fall 2028: Start conversion of building to be maintained
  • Spring 2029: Completion renovation and public space

Apartments and stores

On the developer 's website , you can already express interest in stores, the new-build apartments and/or general news about the redevelopment of Giesen-Bautsch. The sale of the apartments is scheduled for the fall of 2025.
