Apply for refugee passport or alien passport
Refugees and foreigners who are allowed to live in the Netherlands can sometimes get a special passport. Apply for the passport in person at the municipality in which you live.
This passport allows you to travel abroad. The passport is valid in all countries except your country of origin. We also deliver travel documents to your home or work, Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Approach
This is how you apply for a refugee or alien passport:
- You come to the congregation.
- You bring:
- your valid residence permit
- all your travel documents, even if they have expired
- 1 color passport photo taken according to the rules
- possibly: your expired refugee or alien passport
- You pay for the passport at the time of application. Please pay by pin.
The municipality may forward your application for a refugee or alien passport to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The municipality will then ask you for additional documents. The Minister of Foreign Affairs then evaluates your application.
Are you applying for a passport for a child under 18? Then come to the municipality with the child. In addition to the above, please bring:
- your own proof of identity
- written consent from both parents or guardians
Has your passport been lost or stolen? Go to the municipality to apply for a new travel document. You do not have to report it to the police.
Before applying, make an appointment at the municipality. Are you coming to pick up the passport? If so, no appointment is necessary. You must pick up the passport in person. Bring the receipt with you. This is your pickup receipt. Bring old travel documents to turn in.
