Social assistance benefit pension entitlement

The SVB calculates how much AOW you will receive around your retirement age.
You will receive a letter from the SVB if the calculation indicates that you may have insufficient income from the age of 65. Do you have any questions about the supplementary benefit?

Approach

Around the time you reach retirement age, the SVB will calculate how much AOW you will receive. You will receive a letter from the SVB if they expect you to have insufficient income. This will tell you whether you are entitled to the supplementary benefit. Provide your details to the SVB and you will receive the application form approximately six months before your retirement date.

The amount of the AIO supplement depends on the amount of your AOW pension.

Description

Once you reach retirement age, you are entitled to an AOW pension. You accrue entitlement for every year you have lived in the Netherlands since the age of 15. This Social assistance benefit your monthly income up to the social minimum.

The supplement is called Supplementary Income Provision for the Elderly (AIO). The Social Insurance Bank (SVB) administers the scheme for people who have reached retirement age.
