Social assistance benefit and entitled to a pension

The SVB calculates around your retirement age how much AOW you will get.
You will get a letter from the SVB if the calculation shows that you may have too little income from age 65. Do you have questions about the supplementary benefit?

Approach

Around your retirement age, the SVB calculates how much AOW you will get. You will get a letter from SVB if they expect you to have too little income. You can then see if you are entitled to the supplementary benefit. Give your details to the SVB and you will receive the application form about six months before your retirement date.

The amount of the AIO supplement depends on the amount of your AOW.

Description

From your retirement age, you are entitled to an AOW benefit. For each year that you have lived in the Netherlands since you were 15, you build up rights. Have you lived outside the Netherlands for a number of years? Then you will receive a lower AOW benefit. Perhaps you are then entitled to supplementary assistance? This Social assistance benefit supplements your monthly income up to the social minimum.

The supplement is called Supplementary Income Provision for the Elderly (AIO). The Social Insurance Bank (SVB) administers the scheme for people from retirement age onward.
More information about the supplementary benefit can be found on the SVB website .
