Bicycle Project

For children up to and including elementary school, the municipality of Heerlen has its own bicycle project. It is run by Werk voor Heerlen.

Since Jan. 1, 2022, the municipality has been giving safe, used bicycles to all children ages 4 through 18. If the bike becomes too small, it is exchanged for a larger bike. Thus, each child gets 4 bicycles until the child grows up.

We have already made many hundreds of children happy with a bicycle. So if you have a low income, do not hesitate and contact the municipality at gemeente@heerlen.nl.

Children of parents with an income up to 120% of the social assistance standard, who attend high school, can apply for a bicycle from the Leergeld Foundation.
