Disabled parking permit application

Do you have a problem parking because you cannot walk properly? Then you can apply for a disabled parking permit. Care facilities can also apply for a parking card. You apply for the parking card at the municipality.

Approach

Here's how to apply for a disabled parking permit:

  • You apply for the disabled parking permit at municipality where you live.
  • You will need:
    • A copy of your valid ID
    • 1 recent and clear passport photo
    • A copy of your driver's license (for a driver's card)

  • €50 in case of theft or loss of the card
  • €50 for an application for an institution

Description

A disabled parking card allows you to park in disabled parking spaces in 31 countries in Europe. There are 3 different cards:

  • Driver card (B): Do you have a disability and drive a car by yourself? Then you can apply for a driver's card. There is no license plate number on the card. You can use the card in any car.
  • Passenger card (P): Do you have a disability and depend on transportation by others? Then apply for a passenger card.
  • Institutions Card (I): Allows healthcare institutions to transport residents with disabilities.

The driver card and the passenger card are in your name. Therefore, only you can use the card. You can use the card with any vehicle. There is no license plate number on it.

If you are sometimes a driver and sometimes a passenger, you can apply for a combination card. You then apply for a card for both situations. 

Terms

The main requirements for applying for a disabled parking permit for a driver or passenger are:

  • You cannot walk 100 meters in a row and
  • You drive the vehicle yourself (driver's license), or
  • You depend on the assistance of the driver (passenger card) from door to door. 

A medical examination may be part of your application.
Do you already have a disabled parking permit? If so, renew it on time. A new medical examination may be required. Apply for renewal at least 2 months before your disabled parking permit expires.

Term

The municipality decides on your application within 8 weeks. Is that not possible? Then the municipality may extend this period 1 time.

Objection and appeal

If you disagree with the decision of municipality, you can file an objection. With this you let the municipality know why you disagree with the decision. Do so within 6 weeks. The municipality will then take another look at your application and make a new decision.

After that, if you still don't agree with the decision of municipality? Then you can ask the court if the municipality made a good decision. This is called "appeal.
