Approach

This is how you apply for a handicapped parking space:

  • You apply for the disabled parking space at the municipality in which you live.
  • You will need:
    • A sketch of the desired parking lot
    • A copy of your disabled parking permit (driver's permit)

Description

Other drivers may not park in a handicapped parking space. You will be given a reserved parking space, on your car's license plate number, near your home.
 

Requirements

The Requirements for applying for a handicapped parking space are:

  • You have a European disability parking card
  • your disabled parking permit is valid for at least 6 months
  • You own a car, moped or disabled vehicle
  • You do not have your own parking space (for example, a driveway or garage)
  • You have a permanent walking disability
  • you have been medically examined
  • You have a valid disabled driver's parking permit. If you have a passenger card, you usually do not qualify for a disabled license plate parking space.
  • Within 100 meters of your home, you have no private parking that you can use despite your disability.
  • The parking pressure measurement indicates that there are less than 3 free parking spaces within 100 meters walking distance from your home. We perform the measurement at different times. 
  • The owner of the lot on which the handicapped parking space will be located gives permission.
  • Handicapped parking does not create unsafe situations or impede traffic.
  • The police advise positively.

Term

The municipality will make a decision within eight weeks of receiving your application. The municipality may extend this period once.

The amendment period is a minimum of 4 weeks.
Keep in mind that creating the handicapped parking space takes longer.

Objections and appeals

You can object to the decision on your application. Do this within 6 weeks. If you disagree with the decision on the objection, you can lodge an appeal with the court.
