Municipal elections 2026

Municipal elections 2026

Voting is about more than coloring a box red. Your vote determines your future and that of your neighborhood. The council and the college decide your daily life and your neighborhood. Think about jobs, the layout of your neighborhood and streets, new construction projects or education in your neighborhood. So use your right to vote March 18, 2026 and vote for the party that suits you!

Timeline for the election

  1. Completed: Final determination of candidate list and list numbering - Completion date

During a public session of the Central Electoral Committee on February 6 at 5 p.m., the final candidate lists and list numbering were determined. View the official report

  2. Completed: Voting passes distributed - Completion date

From February 23 to 28, 2026, all voters will receive their voting passes in the mail.

  3. Still to do: Receiving candidate lists - Completion date

From March 2 to March 6, 2026, all voters will receive the candidate lists in their mailboxes.

  4. Still to do: Replacement voting pass or proxy requested - Completion date

Deadline for voters to request a replacement voting pass online or submit a written proxy.

Replacement voting passes or proxy forms can be requested at the counter until 12 noon on March 17.

Voting aids

Who will you vote for? To make that choice easier, there is a voting guide. A voting guide shows which issues are at stake in the elections and how the political parties feel about them. The voting guide is usually ready a few weeks before the elections. In addition, Heerlen has a website called 'Heerlen kiest' (Heerlen chooses). There you can read all about the political parties and the candidates.
