Registering a party name for the municipal elections

A political party or group must register if it wishes to participate in elections under a specific name.

Approach

This is how you register a political party or group:

  • Download the registration form from the Rijksoverheid website.
  • Fill out the form.
  • Send the completed form and requested documents to the Electoral Council.
  • Transfer the deposit (€112.50) to IBAN: NL73INGB0672814471 in the name of the municipality of Heerlen. Please also state the deposit registration and the designation (e.g., Registration Flower Party).

You need this to register a political group: 

  • a copy of the notarized deed containing the rules of the association
  • proof of registration in the commercial register of the Chamber of Commerce
  • proof of payment of the deposit
  • the valid declaration of the political group appointing the proxy and the deputy proxy to the central electoral committee

Costs

The deposit for registering a party or group for the municipal elections is €112.50. Your party will get the deposit back if you submit a valid list of candidates.

Description

New political parties or groups register with the Electoral Council. If you meet all the Requirements , you may submit a list of candidates.

March 18, 2026 is the election for the municipal council. You can register your party name for participation in the municipal elections until Monday, December 22, 2025.

Registration of a party or group is not mandatory. A political party or grouping can also participate in the elections with a blank list. In that case, there is only a number and no name at the top of the party's or group's list of candidates and ballot paper.
