Municipal elections 2026

Voting is about more than coloring a box red. Your vote determines your future and that of your neighborhood. The council and the college decide your daily life and your neighborhood. Think about jobs, the layout of your neighborhood and streets, new construction projects or education in your neighborhood. So use your right to vote March 18, 2026 and vote for the party that suits you!

Register your party on time

In order to participate in the municipal elections with your political party, you must register the name of the political party. You can do this at the central electoral office in Heerlen. If you are participating in the municipal elections on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, you must register your party name by December 22, 2025, at the latest.

If your party name is registered with the Electoral Council for the House of Representatives, with the central electoral committee of the Province of Limburg, or with the central electoral committee of the Municipality of Heerlen, registration is not necessary.

Timeline for political parties

  1. Still to do: Registration designation municipal elections -

    Last day to register as a political party. 

  2. Still to do: Deposit for candidacy paid -

    The last day on which the deposit for the candidacy must be in the municipality's account.

  3. Still to do: Early submission of candidate lists -

    Political parties ensure that the draft candidate lists are submitted.

  4. Still to do: Declarations of support made -

    Until February 2, we will be submitting statements of support for parties that do not yet have a seat on the municipal council.

  5. Still to do: Nomination Day -

    Political parties submit the final list of candidates.

Every Dutch citizen aged 18 or older who is eligible to vote may vote or participate in the elections as a candidate. Have your say in what happens in our country and in your neighborhood. Below you will find everything you can currently arrange with the municipality.
