A crossover between hip-hop dance and sign language with a broad palette of visual stimuli.

Imagine a world where music can be experienced in dance and color. Resonance breaks through the traditional perception of music and demonstrates that it can not only be heard, but also felt, seen and interpreted. In this innovative dance performance by 20Hertz, rhythmic bodies, lights and visual effects can be felt, seen and heard through crossovers of dance, sign language and visual stimuli. This makes the performance accessible for deaf and hard of hearing theatergoers, and at the same time an enrichment for hearing visitors!

20Hertz is a dance company of hearing, hard of hearing and deaf dancers led by choreographer Sharon Wesseling. Sharon, who was recently nominated for the Dutch Dance Days' Innovation Award, is an exceptional creator from our own region. She was born virtually deaf and underwent fourteen surgeries that partially restored her hearing but affected her organ of balance. However, she does not let these obstacles slow her down in her development as a choreographer and dancer. In fact, they encourage her to create choreographies that are accessible to everyone, regardless of hearing ability.

Resonance explores the boundaries of what sound and movement mean and how they can be experienced in new ways. The performance invites you to experience music through someone else's ears and take a look into the world of sound as experienced by the deaf and hard of hearing. During Cultura Nova this performance will have its Dutch premiere.

The performance takes place on Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. and on Aug. 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the Cultuurhuis Heerlen on Sittarderweg. Tickets cost €10 each and can be purchased through the Theater Heerlen (PLT) website.
