Access to restricted areas

Rates for 2025

• A deposit for a temporary key or pass for the access barriers costs €65. This amount will be refunded when you return the key or pass.
• An exemption, if you need one to access the area, costs €18.50. 
• A new key or card if the temporary one is lost or damaged costs €65.

Rates for 2026

• A deposit for a temporary key or pass for the access barriers costs €65. This amount will be refunded when you return the key or pass.
• A permit, if required for access to the area, costs €19.50. 
• A new key or card if the temporary one is lost or damaged costs €65.

Examples of restricted areas include Heerlerheide Park, Hoensbroek, and a number of rural areas.
Heerlen city center is connected to the new access system, which uses cameras.

The municipality will decide on your application within 8 weeks of receipt. This period may be extended once.

In making its decision, the municipality applies thepolicy rule Passing through bus gates and the policy rule Driving in the pedestrian zone.

You can object to the decision on your application. Do this within 6 weeks. If you disagree with the decision on the objection, you can lodge an appeal with the court.
