Approach

To initiate an address search, you will need:

  • your valid ID
  • proof that you are the owner or tenant of the property
  • possibly the details of the person or persons involved

Description

With the municipality, everyone is registered at an address. This can be a residential or postal address. If you have doubts about whether address information is correct, the municipality must start an investigation.

Is someone registered at your address even though they do not live with you? If so, ask the municipality for an address search.

The municipality cannot simply deregister a departed resident. Only they can:

  • If the departed resident notifies the move themselves or
  • if the municipality has investigated and has not been able to locate a new address

Term

The study lasts up to 3 months.

At the municipality of Heerlen, the investigation takes an average of six weeks.

Objection and appeal

The person concerned may file an appeal within six weeks from the date of the decision.
