Requesting a letter address

Do you have no permanent place of residence, or are you leaving for less than 8 months abroad? You may be able to register at a letter address.
You apply for the use of a letter address at the municipality where the letter address provider lives.

You may temporarily receive your mail at an address other than where you reside. For example, because you do not have a home. You request a postal address from the municipality.

    • why you need a letter address
    • For how long you need the letter address
  • You bring:
    • your own valid proof of identity
Description

Do you have no residential address? Or are you living temporarily in an institution? Then you can have your municipality register you at a postal address. Government agencies, such as UWV or the Tax Office, send your mail to this address.

You can use the address of an acquaintance, business or institution as a mailing address. The recipient must make sure the mail gets to you. You must request the use of the letter address from the municipality.

Can't get a postal address yourself? Then the municipality will help you with this.

The (main) resident of the specified letter address gives written permission for registration at his or her own residential address. Thus, the resident ensures that you can be reached through him or her.

If you go abroad, you cannot keep a postal address in the Netherlands. If you live outside the Netherlands for at least two-thirds of a year, you are required to report your departure from the Netherlands and your address abroad to the municipality.
