You can use your DigiD to log in to government websites. It is your online ID and signature. With your DigiD, you can, for example, file your tax return online, request an extract from the Personal Records Database (BRP), or notify the authorities of your change of address.

Approach

How to apply for a DigiD:

  • Go to the DigiD website.
  • Choose whether you want to log in with a username and password, or via an app on your phone.
  • Please fill in the following details:
    • social security number
    • date of birth
    • address details
  • Choose a username yourself or, for the app, a PIN code.
  • You will receive an activation code by mail.
  • Enter the activation code and your username or PIN code on the DigiD website.

Many organizations no longer allow you to log in with DigiD without using your phone.

Applying for a DigiD from abroad is done differently. Visit the DigiD.nl website for more information about applying for a DigiD from abroad.

Description

Taking care of things for someone else

Would you like to arrange government matters online for someone else? Then use DigiD Authorization. This is also possible if that person does not have a DigiD. Is authorization not an option? Ask the organization you want to arrange something with how you can do this without a DigiD.

Using DigiD to conduct business in EU countries

Citizens and businesses from all countries within the European Union can now conduct business online with the government of another EU country. To do so, you use your own login details. This means you can log in to another European country using DigiD or eHerkenning. Dutch government institutions ensure that citizens and businesses from other EU countries can also log in to Dutch websites.

You will receive AOW

If you receive AOW from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), you can also apply for DigiD on the SVB website www.svb.nl. The SVB will send the letter with the activation code to the address known to them.

Term

Your DigiD will expire if you do not use it for 3 years.
