A DigiD allows you to log in to government websites. It is your online proof of identity and signature. With your DigiD you can, for example, file your tax return online, request an extract from the basic registration of persons (BRP) or report your change of address.

Approach

Here's how to apply for a DigiD:

  • Go to the DigiD website.
  • Choose whether to log in with a username and password, or via an app on your phone.
  • You will enter the following information:
    • citizen service number
    • date of birth
    • address
  • Choose your own username or for the app: a PIN.
  • You will receive an activation code by mail.
  • On the DigiD website, enter: the activation code and your username or PIN.

At many organizations, you can no longer log in with DigiD without using your phone.

Taking care of business for someone else

Do you want to arrange government business online for someone else? Then use DigiD Machtigen. This is also possible if that person does not have DigiD. Is authorization not an option? Ask the organization where you want to arrange something how you can do that without DigiD.

Conduct business in EU countries with DigiD

Citizens and companies from all countries within the European Union can now conduct online business with the government of another EU country. For this you use your own login medium. So you can log in in another European country with DigiD or eHerkenning. Dutch government agencies ensure that citizens and businesses from other EU countries can also log in to Dutch websites.

You will receive AOW

If you receive AOW from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), you can also apply for DigiD on the SVB website www.svb.nl. The SVB will send the letter with activation code to the address as known to them.

Term

Your DigiD expires if you do not use it for 3 years.
