Applying for DigiD if you live abroad

You can apply for a DigiD online from abroad. You will receive a counter code. Take the counter code with you to your appointment at the DigiD abroad counter. You will then receive an activation code to activate your DigiD.

Please note

You must come to the municipality yourself to collect the DigiD activation code. Someone else cannot do this for you.

Description

You can use your DigiD to log in to government websites. It is your online ID and signature. You can then do the following online, for example:

  • file a tax return
  • request an extract from the Personal Records Database (BRP)
  • notify us of your move

Citizens and businesses from all countries within the European Union can now conduct business online with the government of another EU country. To do so, you use your own login details. This means you can log in to another European country using DigiD or eHerkenning. Dutch government institutions ensure that citizens and businesses from other EU countries can also log in to Dutch websites.
