Digital Neighborhood Prevention Groups

Together we see more than alone. In more and more neighborhoods in Heerlen, residents are starting 'WhatsApp' groups for the purpose of Neighborhood Prevention. Through the Whatsapp, residents alert each other to suspicious situations.

Would you like to have Whatsapp signs installed as an administrator of a WhatsApp group (with a financial contribution from the municipality):

  • Then fill out the digital application form.

Description

Do you see a suspicious situation? Alert residents in your neighborhood with the app and keep an eye on the suspect. Meanwhile, alert the police via telephone number 112. Perhaps you yourself can "disrupt" the action by, for example, having an "innocent" chat with the suspect. On the website WABP you can see where in your neighborhood a group has already started. See under 'useful links'. If there is a group in your neighborhood, contact the administrator to join this Whatsapp group. 

Terms

If you want to have signs posted for your WhatsApp neighborhood prevention group, enough residents must join the neighborhood prevention group. The number of residents varies by situation. The neighborhood director will discuss this with you.
Know the ground rules of the SAAR method: 

S = Signal
A = Alert the police via 1-1-2
A = App to the participants in your WhatsApp group to make your sighting known. (Also mention if anyone has already called 1-1-2.)
R = Respond by, for example, going outside and making contact with the suspicious person.
