Update data in basic registration of persons (BRP)
Everyone living in the Netherlands must be registered in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Are your details in the BRP incorrect? Or do you want to have your details changed or removed after an adoption or sex change? If so, please report this to the municipality in which you live.
Approach
This is how you report a change of incorrect data in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP):
- Make an appointment with the municipality.
- Come to the appointment and bring:
- your valid ID
- proof of the incorrect information, such as a letter showing your name in error
- proof of proper records, such as proof of divorce or birth certificate
This is how you request a change or deletion of records after adoption or gender reassignment:
- You send your application to the municipality.
- With your application, please send along:
- A copy of your valid ID
- proving the correct data
- for data on sex change: an expert statement
Adjustment of data BRP due to event abroad
Do you want to update your data in the BRP? And does the official document required to do so come from abroad? For example, because you got married abroad? Then you may need to have the document translated. There are 3 possibilities:
- The document is written in Dutch, French, German or English.
Then take this document with you. You do not need to have anything translated. - The document is not written in Dutch, German, French, or English. And the document comes from an EU country.
Then bring this document with you, and a multilingual model form of the document. A multilingual model form is a translation of the document. You apply for it in that other EU country.
Is there no multilingual model form of the document? Then you must have the document translated, and bring it with you to the appointment. - The document is not written in Dutch, German, French or English. And the document is not from an EU country.
Then have the document translated by an official translator and bring it with you to the appointment.
