Requesting support for caregiver

As a family caregiver, you care for a family member, friend or neighbor. Giving this care can be tough. You can get support for this. Contact the Steunpunt voor Mantelzorgers Parkstad Limburg or report to Buurtteams.

Approach

This is how you report your request for help to the municipality:

  • Contact the municipality. You may do this yourself, or someone else may do it for you.
  • The municipality will make an appointment with you for an interview. Someone else may be present at this interview. For example, your partner or a client supporter.
  • During the interview, you will discuss your request for help with the municipality. You will discuss the following issues:
    • What can you still do yourself?
    • What can people around you do for you?
    • Are there municipal facilities that can solve your problem?
  • After the conversation, the council writes a plan of action.
  • Does the plan state that you need a customized service? Then you can make an application to the municipality. It is sometimes possible to receive a customized facility as a personal budget.

Cost

The municipality may ask for a co-payment. Read more about the co-payment on the CAK website.

Description

There may be facilities nearby that you can use, such as:

  • Getting help from a volunteer with your informal care responsibilities.
  • Arrange for the person you care for to use a meal service. You will no longer have to cook every day.
  • Participate in meetings for family caregivers so you can share each other's experiences.

Can't figure it out yourself? You can take your questions to a neighborhood team in your own neighborhood. You will receive explanation, advice or help.
The team member will discuss with you what you can do yourself, what you need help with and whether professional help is needed.

Insurance for volunteers and family caregivers

Volunteering is important, but it also comes with risks. Do you cause harm while working as a caregiver? Or has an accident occurred? Then you are automatically insured through the municipality. You do not have to apply for the insurance.

If something has happened, first try to claim the damage from your own insurance or the insurance of the organization where you are volunteering. Is there no other insurance that will pay for the damage? Then contact the municipality to report the damage.

Objection and appeal

You can object to the decision on your report. Do this within 6 weeks. After that, do you disagree with the decision on the objection? Then appeal to the court.
