Approach

Before reporting a complaint to the municipality, you have first determined (or had it determined) that the cause of the complaint lies outside your property.

This is how you report a sewer complaint to the municipality:

  • You contact the municipality.
  • You pass on:
    • your name and address
    • What kind of complaint it is (clogging, stench or subsidence)
    • how long you have had the complaint
    • Whether your neighbors have the same complaint
    • any photos and construction drawings
    • any investigation or statement from a company that investigated your complaint 

Is the municipality responsible for the reported complaint? Then they will ensure that the sewer unblocking company contacts you as soon as possible.

Cost

Rates for unclogging include VAT:

  • €50 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • € 75 on weekdays between 4:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. ( 150%)
  • € 75,- on Saturday all day (150% )
  • € 100,- on Sundays and holidays all day ( 200% )

Before starting work, you sign a document. You then agree to the terms and conditions. The hired company will send you the bill. The discount scheme does not apply to apartments and to indoor blockages, such as kitchens, bathrooms, toilets and so on. If you hire a company yourself, the costs are at your own expense.

Description

The municipality is responsible for the construction, maintenance and management of the main sewer system with the pumping stations, pumps and storage and settlement basins. The owner of a home or structure, is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the connection to this system. You may report complaints about odors, sewer blockage or subsidence of the road due to a sewer leak to the municipality.

The municipality has contracted with a specialized company to unclog house sewers. You can use that company at a cheaper rate if your sewer connection is clogged. This is not possible if you are the cause of the clog yourself. The company only does the unclogging work.
