Do you live or stay abroad? Then you can still vote in the elections to the House of Representatives. To do so, you may have to register with the municipality of The Hague first. This could be done until September 17, 2025 at the latest.

Are you no longer registered with a Dutch municipality? Then you have to register with the municipality of The Hague as a voter outside the Netherlands. You only have to do this once. You will then be sent the correct documents for each election. You can then vote in the following ways:

You are temporarily abroad

Are you still registered in the Netherlands? Then you can vote in the following ways:

  • By letter. You could apply for voting by letter for House of Representatives elections until September 17. Did you apply for voting by letter on time? Then you will receive a ballot paper sent to your address abroad. You vote by completing and returning your ballot paper. The ballot paper must be with the municipality of The Hague by 3 p.m. on October 29 at the latest. 
  • With a written proxy. This means that you authorize someone in the Netherlands to vote for you. Your application must be with the municipality by October 24 at the latest.
  • With a voter's card. This allows you to vote in any Dutch municipality. This is useful if you are in the Netherlands during the elections. Your application must be with the municipality by October 24 at the latest.

You can also vote with the voting pass you received at your Dutch address.

Requirements

The Requirements for registering as a voter abroad are:

  • You are Dutch.
  • You are not excluded from the right to vote.
  • You are not registered in a Dutch municipality.
  • You are 18 years of age or older.
