Identify in elections

Are you going to vote for the European Parliament on June 6, 2024? Then you must identify yourself at the polling station.

Identifying means proving who you are. One way to do this is with a Dutch passport, driver's license or identity card.

Description

When you vote, you must identify yourself. Identifying means proving who you are.

In elections, please identify yourself with:

  • A Dutch passport, driver's license or identity card
  • a passport, driver's license or identity card issued by a member state of the European Union
  • a passport, driver's license or identity card issued by Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
  • a passport or identity card issued by Switzerland
  • A foreigner's document issued in the Netherlands

Your ID must be expired for a maximum of 5 years on June 6, 2024.

Do you also vote for someone else with an authorization through the voting card? You will need a copy of the ID of the person you are voting for. You may also show the copy on your phone or tablet. The copy must be legible.

Don't have proof of identity or has it expired for more than 5 years? Then request a written proxy from the municipality. Then someone else can vote for you.
