Non-residents (RNI)

Do you live abroad? Are you getting an error message when requesting a DigiD because your details are incorrect? We will adjust them.

Did you get married or become a registered partner in another country rather than in the Netherlands? Register your marriage or partnership with the municipality.

Have you successfully completed the naturalization process? You will receive an invitation to the ceremony from the municipality.

You can apply for a DigiD online from abroad. You will receive a counter code that you take with you to your appointment at the DigiD abroad counter in Heerlen.

Are you new to the Netherlands? You may need to integrate. This will teach you about life in the Netherlands. You will also learn Dutch.

Have you been living in the Netherlands for less than 4 months? You can register in the Non-Residents Registration System (RNI). You will receive a BSN after registering.

If you are Dutch and live abroad, you can apply for a passport or identity card in Heerlen.

An extract from the RNI shows that you are registered in the Non-Residents Register. The extract contains your name, place of birth, and address.

You will need a residence permit if you wish to stay in the Netherlands for longer than 90 days. Apply for this at the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
