    The City of Heerlen and Brightlands Smart Services Campus are committed to the long term. After ten years of collaboration, the City Council has decided to extend the partnership by fifteen years, through 2040. This move strengthens Heerlen’s position as a knowledge city and marks the next step in the municipality’s development of a city where businesses, researchers, and students come together.

    The City of Heerlen and H.V.V. De Winkbülle are joining forces with the hospitality industry. In 2027, we will introduce reusable hard-cup cups for the first time to promote a more sustainable carnival and a cleaner city.

  • Princess Laurentien Unveils ‘Treasures of Heerlen’

    In the Netherlands, one in four children starts out with a language delay. This delay is often difficult to overcome later on. Reading aloud helps with language development. That is why all parents receive a free new storybook about the history of Heerlen during their first visit to the child health clinic.

  • Heerlen launches project on women and heritage

    The municipality of Heerlen has launched the European project Bridging HERitage. From March 10 to 12, eight European partners came to Heerlen for the first working visit. Together, they will work for two years to raise awareness of the role of women in European culture.
