After years of shrinkage, the municipality of Heerlen is now confidently moving toward growth. With the ambition to add at least 7,000 new homes to the city before 2050, Heerlen is choosing a course with guts, vision and ambition. We do this by prioritizing housing projects that contribute most to our housing ambition.
Last year, the municipality completed 14 projects in public spaces. With this work, more than 11 million euros were invested throughout the city, mostly in our neighborhoods and districts. Currently, work is already underway on many other locations.
This year, Heerlen will take further measures to make the city (traffic) safer, more livable and more accessible. The emphasis is on projects that directly affect the traffic safety and livability of our residents.

The municipality is working on a new heart for Heerlerbaan. Shopping center Giesen Bautsch will be renovated. Above the stores there will be 41 apartments for sale in the middle segment. Together with the Brede Maatschappelijke Voorziening (BMV) and community center Caumerbron, this will create a place where shopping, living and meeting come together.
