Setting off fireworks

You may set off fireworks at the turn of the year. The fireworks must be on the list of permitted fireworks.

Fireworks may be set off between 6 p.m. on December 31 and 2 a.m. on January 1.

The cost depends on the required environmental permits. If the fee regulation does not apply, we charge the quarter rate. The quarter rate is € 19.60 

Description

You may set off fireworks at the turn of the year. Think about safety. If you don't follow the rules, you are liable for penalties.

Professionals need an application permit to set off fireworks. You can apply for an application permit at Ilent. You also need permission from the province every time you set off professional fireworks.

We will again put up containers at New Year's Eve where residents can dispose of fireworks debris free of charge. We will place the containers on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 and collect them again during Monday, January 6.

Consumers are no longer allowed to light a number of fireworks products. Fireworks retailers may no longer stock these products. 

The ban applies to the following fireworks:

  • from category F3. The category statement is on the fireworks packaging
  • popping fireworks (such as firecrackers)
  • popping strands (such as Chinese mats)
  • single shot tubes (single shots)
  • flares
  • Roman candles and baby darts

Terms

The conditions for setting off fireworks include:

  • You set off fireworks only between 6 p.m. on December 31 and 2 a.m. on January 1.
  • You are setting off legal fireworks.
  • You are at least 12 years old (for light fireworks such as starlets) or 16 years old (for fireworks such as fountains).
  • You do not light fireworks in fireworks-free zones.
