  • On May 30, Heerlen City Center will be transformed into a giant playground

    On Saturday, May 30, the center of Heerlen will turn into a playground. The event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is the fourth time we’ve organized this event.

  • Youth Education Fund grant to continue in 2027

    The municipality of Heerlen has been collaborating with the Youth Education Fund (JEF) since 2017. This fund helps children growing up in poverty. Their talent does not determine how far they will go; their home situation does.
    A three-year pilot program will conclude at the end of 2026. This pilot was successful. That is why the municipality wants to continue the partnership. Currently, 14 schools are participating. More schools are expected to join in the future.

  • The City and Woonpunt are set to renovate the Kasteelbuurt neighborhood

    The City of Heerlen and Woonpunt have agreed to renovate the Kasteelbuurt neighborhood. They want to make the neighborhood more attractive and better suited for the future.

  • Restaurants and bars will be allowed to stay open later during the Netherlands' late-night World Cup matches

    The city of Heerlen is allowing restaurants and bars to stay open later during the Dutch national team’s late-night matches. This will allow fans to watch the games in cafés and on outdoor patios.

  • Safety operation around Heerlen Station and the tracks

    On May 7, the municipality of Heerlen, NS, Arriva, and the police jointly carried out a safety operation at and around Heerlen Station and along the rail lines between Heerlen, Maastricht, Sittard, and Roermond. The operation focused on surveillance of public transportation, the station area, and downtown Heerlen.

    The City of Heerlen and De Regenboog Elementary School celebrated the grand opening of the indoor outdoor gym.

  • The City and the Business Fund Extend Their Agreement Through 2031

    Today, the City of Heerlen and the Heerlen Entrepreneurs Fund Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding for the period 2026–2031. The Entrepreneurs Fund enables entrepreneurs to jointly invest in initiatives that contribute to a more attractive, safer, and more vibrant Heerlen.

  • Heerlen's youngest director receives a youth award for an indoor playground

    Benjamin Pacbier (8), a fourth-grader, dreamed of having his own playground in the center of Heerlen. He had an idea and built a model of it at home using LEGO. He asked his father, creative entrepreneur Lars Pacbier, if he could build his idea. So Benjamin, together with his father, made his dream come true. That is quite remarkable at such a young age. That is why the youngest director from Heerlen received the Youth Award today from Mayor Wever and Alderman .

  • Freedom Meal moved from Pancratiusplein to PLT
