Council committees
In the council committees, members discuss the topics in order to prepare the municipal council's decisions as well as possible. The council committees are also used for consultation between the committee members and the mayor and aldermen.
Topics covered by the committees:
- Economy, Administration, and Finance Committee (EBF)
This committee deals with topics such as the economy, the labor market, participation, sports, finance, administrative power, city marketing, communication, service provision, neighborhood-oriented working, Heerlen-Noord, local democracy, and sustainability. - Spatial Development and Living Environment Committee (ROLO)
This committee deals with issues relating to the city center, spatial development, restructuring, housing, omgevingswet, management and maintenance, the environment, waste, mobility, traffic, and animal welfare. - Society and Welfare Committee (MW)
This committee deals with topics such as culture and heritage, education, events, welfare, the Social Support Act (WMO), youth, income and poverty reduction, social services, public health, elderly care policy, diversity, safety, and law enforcement.
The committees do not make decisions, but advise the municipal council. They usually meet once a month. These meetings are generally open to the public. You can also give your opinion. For more information, see the page on council and committee meetings.
Committee members
The committees consist of council members or their substitutes from the political party. These members specialize in specific areas of policy.
